Krāslava municipality Council (Krāslavas novada dome), a municipality in the very remote southern – eastern part of Latvia, at the EU external border with Belarus, with 11 125 very multi-national inhabitants, fantastic nature and rich cultural heritage, has undertaken the challenge to participate in „Community with Spirit 2010”. I am sure that this is the right moment to encourage local inhabitants of Kraslava to be more active in improving their living environment by own volunteer work and ideas and attracted finacing from „Koninklijke Nederlandsche Heidemaatschappij” and further on – from municipality, businesses and other sources.

Cesis District Rural Partnership is a Local Action Group, which works since 2006 with the main aim to develop and create favourable living conditions and sustainable Cesis region rural areas. Partnership involves NGO’s, physical persons, initiative groups, 8 local municipalities and private companies based on the voluntarism and equal principles. It is working practically in all territory of Cesis district covering 55 thousands of inhabitants. KNHM fund is a perfect financial support and encouragement for local citizens to take initiatives and achieve that their dreams can come true. I believe that people should simply start to act and there will appear plenty of followers.

Ogre municipality and KNHM have worked together for three years in implementing the project “Community with Spirit Ogre” and organising joint project competitions for public organisations and inhabitants groups. Totally 75 project have been approved during the three years of our cooperation, and a lot of significant and inspiring things have been done by our inhabitants in the multi-apartment houses, yards, children play grounds, parks, etc. In 2009 the territory of Ogre County has expanded - eight rural villages have joined to our municipality. Some of them have cooperated with KNHM already before, but in 5 villages – Keipene, Laubere, Madliena, Mengele and Suntazi – such project competition will be organised for the first time. We hope that inhabitants of these villages will be creative, diligent and enthusiastic and that many beautiful and significant ideas will be implemented there as well.

Statement of cooperation Society of The Coast (known also as EUCC – Poland) has started to cooperate with KNHM (Koninklijke Nederlandsche Heidemaatshappij) since 2002, when the first meetings and recognising of organising common projects was discussed. Since this time thanks to the support, as financial as conceptual and organisational, of KNHM our Society has been able to fruitful realising of group of projects where the sustainable development in the scale of small local communities was the most important aim. Society for The Coast (EUCC-Poland) has realised thanks to the KNHM involvements the following projects: “Sami Sobie”: This project was realised in two editions, where the most important was to combine local people concept and organisation with concrete small investment supporting social life in “postkolkchos landscape”. As the result nearly 20 new places of rest, children-gardens and local clubs were improved, better equipped or realised from the beginning. Project has very good opinions in local and regional scale, by local administration, inhabitants and media. “Sustainable rural development at the Odra Delta, Poland”: During this long-term project Society of The Coast (EUCC-Poland) was able to create backgrounds for sustainable tourism development around organised Odra Delta Nature Park. Local people initiatives in organising tourism were supported by KNHM, what has a great impact also for improvements of social organisation. A small network of partners was initiated; new places of spending holidays were created. And Society for The Coast (EUCC-Poland) has got new partners for realised its education mission connected with nature conservation. It is our honour to declare, that this time of cooperation in very important scale has enlarged our platforms of activities and has made our social mission easier to implkement. The new investments for the “postkolkchos” societies has also shown the way of local activities and in many examples has supported individual contacts between people. It was possible thanks to KNHM involvements of organising and financial supporting.
